How to Reserve Items On-Line
Using the On-Line LINC Catalog for Search & Request

The on-line catalog lets you easily search for and request the book, movie, audio book, or magazine that you want at NRLD and at other libraries in the Lincoln Trail Libraries System.

To find the catalog, you can go to NRLD’s website for an easy to use link. You can find NRLD’s site at www.newmanregionallibrary.org. Clink on "Resources" or the link on the home page for the LTLS catalog.  The rest of these directions are for how to proceed from NRLD’s site’s link. You can also type in www.ltls.org to your address line on your web browser.

The LTLS catalog is called LINC and clicking on it will open the quick search page. If you click on the "Basic tab" you will have a choice of what to search for so that your results are more accurate.  On the "Basic" page, start your search by filling in one blank on this page.

If you want to search for a movie or music CD quickly, click on “Media” at the top of the page. “Advanced” will let you search for more than one criteria, such as, both author and title. It will also let you restrict your search to NRLD held items.

If you know the title of the book or audio book you want, you can put it in the “Title Starts With” box. Then click “go.” You will most likely get a list of “Search Results” from which you can choose the item you were interested in.

Click on the title to get the details screen. This screen gives you a short description of the book, a list of the libraries that own it with information on its status, some links on the left bar, and gives you a chance to request a copy. Once you determine this is what you want, click on “Request Any Copy” to reserve it for yourself.

The next screen will ask for your bar code number from the back of your plastic NRLD library card and for your pin number which is the last four digits of your home phone in most cases.  Type in the bar code without any spaces between the numbers.

Choose the location you wish to have the book delivered to and click on Request. You can choose any automated library in Lincoln Trails to pick up your book, i.e. if you pass the library in Villa Grove, more often than our library, you may choose Camargo Township District Library.

The following screen will let you know you have successfully placed your request. You can then return to searching to find another item.

This same process works for searching for a movie, music CD or audio book. When the item arrives at NRLD we will call or e-mail you so you can come get it in a timely fashion. We are glad to bring these items to Murdock for pick-up.

Using LINC to Manage Your Items
Document Actions

You can renew items and put items you have ordered on hold temporarily through the "My Account" portion of the catalog.

Using the On-Line Catalog For Renewing

The LINC catalog gives you more control over your library use by going to the “My Account” tab at the top of the green bar. This will show you a main screen with a link to the “Items Out”, the “Hold Requests” that you have submitted, and to the “Blocks” or notes or fines that the system wants you to see.

On the “Items Out” screen you will find a list of the things you have checked out.  There is a small box to the left of the title.  Click on it to put a checkmark in the box.  Then you can click the “Renew” button to request a renewal.  If it succeeds you will see the due date change in the window.  If the lending library will not allowed it to be renewed it will give you a message in red to that effect and you will have to contact NRLD or the lending library by phone to request a special renewal.

Managing Your Requests

Let’s say you have some time one evening and you start looking for a bunch of books that you would want to read or movies you want to watch.  You search the LINC catalog and make your requests and when you are done, you discover that you have eight items on your list!  Way too many to watch at one time.

Or let’s say you want to watch a T.V. series, like the Simpsons, but you want to watch it in order that they were shown on T.V.  Or you have made some requests, but now you are going on vacation for a couple of weeks and don’t want them to arrive while you are gone. All three of these scenarios can be helped by using the suspend function in the “Hold Requests” screen.

To get there, click on “My Account” tab and enter your bar code and pin number.  Once you are one the main account page, click on “Hold Requests”.  This will bring up a screen with everything you have requested on it.

If you click on the small boxes on the left, this will put a checkmark in them.  Then at the top of the screen put the date that you want to have your request become active again.  Click on the “Change Status” button.  You will see that the items you check-marked are now suspended until the date you selected.

Using LINC to Order Magazines

Ordering magazines through the LINC catalog will eventually get you the edition you want, though the process is a little more complicated than ordering anything else.  Start at the main catalog screen.

Put the title into the magazine line and hit go.  This will bring up a list of titles, click on the one that gets you what you want.  This will take you to a detail screen with a summary of the libraries that own it. Click on holdings at the top of the bar on the left.  This will give you a list of every library that owns that title with each issue listed separately.

Find the issue you want and click on the far right side, request specific item.  From here the process is identical to ordering a book or movie.  Put in your bar code and pin number, and then choose request.  See page 1 for specifics about the rest of the process.

Note:  New magazines are given to the patrons from the home library first so it may take a month or more to get a brand new issue.
