Need help writing a resume? Want advice on what jobs you might be qualified for? Would a practice interview help you be better prepared? Newman Regional Library District now offers JobNow, a subscription service that will do all that and more for you from a library computer or your home.

“We are very excited to offer this to the community at a time when many people are looking for work,” explains librarian, Renee Henry.  “It is private, personal, and professional so residents can feel comfortable using it at whatever stage of the job search they are in.”

Learn how to utilize this new service at a training session on Monday, June 20 from 7-8 p.m. at the library or by special appointment at other times.  For those wanting to explore the program on their own, it can be accessed from the library’s website, www.newmanregionallibrary.org, using your library card number to enter the site. Call to make a reservation for the class, 837-2412, text 217-808-2412 or email librarian@newmanaregionallibrary.org.

JobNow™ services include:

Live Interview Coaching: Patrons can brush up on interview techniques or get live online interview practice from trained job coaches. Job coaches and patrons communicate via live chat between 2 and 11 p.m. in an online classroom. In addition to live interview coaching, patrons enjoy 24/7 access to interview tips and career resources.

Resume Lab: Job seekers receive expert resume/cover letter assistance from trained experts. Users are also able to download resume templates, or browse resources for producing better resumes.

Career Resources: Patrons enjoy 24/7 access to a carefully-selected library of job resources. In addition, job coaches help users strategically target jobs best suited to their interests and qualifications.

Adult Learning Center: The Adult Learning Center provides foundational, career-enhancing skills to job seekers. In addition, the Adult Learning Center offers test preparation (including the GED and the USCIS citizenship test) and a unique academic skills center featuring live, online tutors.

Everyone living in Newman Township and roughly the southern half of Murdock Township are entitled to a library card at no out-of-pocket cost since they are funding it through their property taxes.  Those living in the surrounding area (Sargent Township, Hume, or Brocton) may purchase a library card by contacting the library at 217-837-2412.  Anyone can access the program by visiting the library and using the public computers (some restrictions apply).

The library is open Mondays & Wednesdays 1:00-8:00 p.m.; Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Fridays 1:00-6:00 p.m.; and Saturdays 9:00-Noon.

This program is made possible by an Eliminate the Digital Divide grant from the Illinois State Library and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
